Robert Lockard- Tiger Stripe

Drafted in 1968, Robert began his service with Basic Training at Fort Bragg, followed by AIT at Fort Holabird, MD (now closed). He then attended Infantry OCS at Fort Benning, earning his commission in January 1969. After completing Airborne School and the Special Forces Qualification Course at Fort Bragg, he served briefly with 10th Special Forces Group before deploying to Vietnam with 5th SFG(A) from October 1969 to May 1971.

He was medevaced in May 1971 and treated at Valley Forge for tuberculosis—likely contracted during operations in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

From July 1972 to August 1974, Robert served as an advisor to the 4th Regimental Combat Team of the Royal Thai Army “Volunteers” in southwest Laos, Thailand, and other regions.

He later transitioned to conventional forces, taking on leadership roles and completing assignments with the 7th ID, 24th ID (Mech), HQ USAREUR, SETAF, 9th ID (Mech), and CENTAG (NATO). Robert concluded his distinguished career at the Pentagon in DCSOPS OD, retiring in September 1991.
